Founded in 1845 and situated on a beautiful 117 acre campus overlooking downtown Springfield, Wittenberg is a liberal arts university offering undergraduate degrees in more than 35 programs and offers graduate level courses and degrees in education.

Wittenberg is consistantly named one of the top liberal arts universities in the midwest by U.S. News & World Report magazine.  The university is home to over 1,900 students and more than 300 staff members. and offers course work with study abroad options overseas.

Wittenberg athletics boasts one of the greatest traditions in college sports, producing legendary coaches, numerous All-American players, national titles in football in 1962 (poll), 1964 and 1969;  men’s basketball in 1961 (college division) and 1977 (Division III) and a tradition of post-season runs.  Additionally, Wittenberg has the most Final Four appearances in Division III men's basketball history (6), total appearances (24) in national tournament, and is the leader in total number of runner-up finishes - 4 (1963, 1976, 1983 and 2006).

Wittenberg Center for Civic and Urban Engagement

Wittenberg has been an important part of the Springfield community nearly from its inception. But, with Mark Erickson taking the reins as University President in 2005, he challenged Wittenberg to become a fully engaged partner with its hometown, resulting in the Center for Civic and Urban Engagement.  Wittenberg's location in an urban setting offers unprecedented opportunities for hands-on internships and real-world experiences that round out students' liberal arts education and equally benefit the community.
